That’s funny – the only people I know who practice Wicca are pony tailed dudes and frumpy women over 40.

As already said by another, it is willful ignorance.
What is really funny is that most covens will not initiate anyone under 18 unless the teen has a parent that is a member. Therefore the claim that all/most wiccans are teens is impossible.
I didn’t even attend a ritual until I was 35. I know many elders who are in their 60s or 70s. Some of which were practicing “the old ways” before Gardner came up with the word Wicca.

Those who know will recognize that a teenage girl is most likely to attract poltergeists and other paranormal phenomena. So is it not only natural for these girls to attempt to get answers to these vexations through an immediately, readily acceptable source called Wicca?

I never heard anyone claim that “only teenage girls practice Wicca”, though. I am “pushing’ 50 years old” and practice Wicca. My Circle (“Coven” if you insist) has an equal split of Male (Wizard) and Female (Witch) and our ages range from 6 years old to over sixty. Not one of us practices the same discipline, however. We have a healer, a seer, an herbalist, a wand-carver, a Tarot Card specialist, and more.

We don’t spit on or look down upon any one elses belief, prefering to adopt a “live and let live” approach. We do, however, believe that there are aspects of Christianity and Wicca that can be combined to assist the Wiccan in practice. (Please don’t lecture me this part… you arent really Wiccan or fully Christian if you can’t understand that: The two are not mutually exclusive). “Live and let live.” “Do what thou wilt, harm none.” “Do unto others as you would have done to you.”

A few more points: Wiccans are in no way militant; we are pacifists who love the world and all in it. We do not recognize Satan, let alone worship him, or any devil for that matter. Wicca has been around -in Pagan practice- longer than Christianity, which began, with Jesus Christ as a Pagan Practice. True… look it up in the HB.

Because a lot of girls come to Wicca when they are young, most don’t stay.
It is an attractive religion for adolescents because it is empowering, stating you can effect the outcome via magic.

Because most people are willfully ignorant of any religion that is not their own. Their only exposure to “wicca” was the TV show “Sabrina The Teenaged Witch”. Honestly, they probably even think that Wiccans have talking cats.

You know the saying

If you don’t find something stupid to believe in till you are 18 you are emotionless, if you still believe in it after you are 18 you are dumb

The original saying refers to Communism but I think it is just the same to all ideologies and religions.

I personally think that any one with a brain can’t be a part of any religion.

Its because of the stereotype that seems to follow the religion. Of course not all followers of Wicca are teen girls, just like not all Christians are brain-dead fundies.
Just like in *lots* of other things, people are uninformed and wish to stay that way. Try not to let it get to you.

As it is stupid to worship anything/anyone except Yahweh.
